Abstract

Canada has significant pedagogical achievements and a developed system of professional training of teachers - a multi-level system of providing pedagogical education. The Canadian Scientific and Pedagogical School closely follows global educational reforms and evaluates their effectiveness and the possibilities of introducing them into its multi-level pedagogical education to increase the competitiveness of national pedagogical staff. Therefore, the study and analysis of the experience of teacher training, in particular, computer science teachers, in Canada is an important source for determining the strategic directions of the development of Ukrainian pedagogical education in the 21st century.

The research is based on the materials of the Canadian information technology guide "Help Your Kids With Computer Science" (author Helen Caldwell, Dr. Tammy Randall Pirmann, Dr.Aleks Krotoski, and Dr. Claire Quigley, Patricia Forster) for general secondary education institutions.

The authors presented a comparative analysis of the features of computer science education in secondary education institutions in Canada and Ukraine. It was revealed that the development of the content of information technology education in Canadian schools is based on a developmental-competency approach. In the Canadian education system, most of the projects implemented by high school students are presented in the form of a presentation of the results of the project. In Canadian secondary education institutions, students have the opportunity to choose the direction of information technology studies: the basics of computer science, data structures, algorithmic analysis, programming languages, computer networks, and more. The main goal of teaching informatics is to turn students who are users of technologies into their creators, giving students the opportunity to reason, program, create, and develop.
