SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF ADAPTIVE SPORTS

Adaptive sports in the context of Ukraine's participation in the war, its indomitable population in the struggle to preserve historical identification, became a key construct in the physical and psychological rehabilitation of veterans and war victims. Adaptive sports are a multifaceted system of modified sports for people with disabilities, shaped by the realities of the current struggle of the Ukrainian people, and are a fundamental key tool for social reintegration, especially for war veterans. Adaptive sports, from a moral and ethical perspective, enable people with special needs to learn new life values and recognize that disability is not a sentence but a new stage in their life dialectics. Adaptive sports allow people with disabilities not only to regain physical fitness, but also to socialize, returning to active life in the community through the formation of a community of «their own» and overcoming psychological barriers, becoming creators of material and spiritual values of society. Our country, having gained independence, has chosen the vector of integration into the progressive European space, in which legal norms supporting people with disabilities operate. Therefore, in Ukraine, adaptive sports are officially recognized as a separate direction of physical culture in accordance with Law No. 9485, adopted in 2024, which relevantly characterizes the state policy on supporting sports for people with disabilities and creating adequate places for their training, and barrier-free spaces – environments where every person, regardless of physical, cognitive, age or social characteristics, has equal, comfortable and unhindered access to all social and sports facilities, medical buildings and educational institutions, and all other spheres of public life. Therefore, the authors of this scientific publication, in the text of the article, present the social aspects of adaptive sports, which make it possible to emphasize the deep humanism of Ukrainian society in contrast to the Soviet one, where war heroes had the status of homeless people and beggars.
