A COMPREHENSIVE NATURAL-SCIENTIFIC PICTURE OF THE WORLD AND A COMPREHENSIVE WORLDVIEW IN THE CONTEXT OF IMPLEMENTING STEM EDUCATION: THE PHILOSOPHICAL BACKGROUND OF UNDERSTANDING THE ESSENCE OF THESE CONCEPTS

The purpose of the article is to rethink the pedagogical aspects of forming a holistic natural science picture of the world and a holistic worldview of schoolchildren in the context of implementing STEM education, establishing a connection between this issue and philosophy, and focusing on the philosophical basis of understanding the essence of these concepts. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Concept of Development of Natural Science and Mathematics Education (STEM Education), the implementation of which is planned for the period until 2027. STEM education is a popular direction in education that covers natural sciences, technologies, technical creativity, and mathematics. One of the main tasks in this process is to form a holistic natural science picture of the world and a holistic worldview in students. These tasks do not occupy the last place in the context of reforming Ukrainian education. The implementation of STEM education takes place at four levels (primary, basic, specialized, higher / professional), depending on the age characteristics of children. The guiding principle of STEM education is integration, which allows for the technologization of the educational process, the transformation of the content, scope, methodological principles of the educational material of the subjects of the natural and mathematical cycle, contributes to the vision of a holistic natural and scientific picture of the world and the formation of a holistic scientific worldview of the student. The main approaches in the context of the implementation of STEM education are integrative and transdisciplinary; a large role is given to high-quality teaching of mathematics, thorough and consistent; all types of education are integrated – formal, nonformal, informal. The concepts of «holistic natural and scientific picture of the world» and «holistic worldview» are not new in scientific knowledge; philosophy has long revealed their essence, and these concepts have a deep philosophical foundation. Philosophy helps to enrich and clarify worldviews, forming a high philosophical and worldview culture of the individual.
