EDUCATIONAL WEB QUESTS AS A MEANS OF DEVELOPING INTEREST IN READING IN PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS

Abstract

The article deals with the substantiation of the issue of using educational web quests as a means of developing interest in reading among primary school pupils. In the context of the development of new educational technologies, the technology of web quests occupies a special place as a means of bringing students closer to real life and solving certain tasks of interpersonal, educational communication and cooperation. In today’s society, where primary school pupils often prefer digital entertainment, there is a declining interest in traditional reading. Web quests that incorporate game elements are an effective tool for rekindling interest in literature. They motivate students to actively search for information, develop independent research skills, critical thinking and logic, which makes the learning process more exciting and helps students learn the material better. In the process of completing web quests, primary school pupils learn to work with different sources of information, to find the information they need and to analyse it, which is particularly important for the development of information literacy in younger pupils. Web quests provide an opportunity to take into account the individual characteristics of each pupil, allowing them to work at their own pace and to choose tasks according to their level of education and interests. Therefore, educational web quests become a relevant tool that not only stimulates interest in reading, but also promotes the development of key skills and competences of younger students in modern conditions. Web quests can be used to explore different lesson topics or to consolidate material, which is usually the format that primary school pupils prefer to learn in. The most characteristic feature of this teaching method is that the younger student becomes an active co-creator of the educational process. Each student participates in collective and group cooperation, students and teachers are equal subjects of the educational process.
